I just want to take a moment and introduce you to the newest sponsor here at Varnish, Richard Burbidge out of the UK! I'm excited to have a sponsor who offers such beautiful architectural details. The product is gorgeous and if it doesn't make you want to remodel your home than you don't have a pulse (or eyeballs)! The mouldings and decorative paneling has me planning a makeover as we speak. Go peruse their website and tempt yourself to redo your ugly tract house. What?! I live in one too! We NEED this product. Passing it straight on to "My Architect"!

It gives you a chance to look at some great furniture this week as well. I picked out a few of my favorite pieces above. They are having a huge summer sale so please go check them out!

Varnish Giveaway
Hola muchachos. I'm super excited to host a $50 giveaway sponsored by CSN Stores! You can shop it up at any of their 200+ online stores (my favorite is allmodern.com). They would also appreciate it if you would check out some of their LCD TV stands if you are in the market. I mean really it's the least you can you do since they are GIVING YOU FREE STUFF! Anyhow, leave a comment with your name and email and I will announce the winner next week. In the meantime- what do you guys think of this wallpaper? I've been looking for the right pattern for way too long. I want to do the headboard wall in my master bedroom.

Beautiful Home Offices
Here are a few oldies but goodies from Domino Magazine's files. I love these home offices for two reasons. 1. They show personality. 2. They are done with a lot of reasonably priced furniture and antique pieces one could find cheaply. These are great inspiration shots for the gal (or guy) who wants a beautiful home office on a budget. *Please talk to my talented sister-in-law if you need an organizer, that is most certainly not my strong suit! Like so many other people we are stuck in a home that is under water and we are completely bursting at the seams when it comes to space. It must be the nesting because I am really trying to get organized and make our little house function better as well as look better. The office is a great place to start.

Sofa Love
Grandma floral fabric+modern sofa= FAB! I am so in love with the image above. Nothing says decadence to me like an expensive piece of furniture dressed in the most beautiful and impractical print possible. One day when I have my own office I hope to sport something like this in the lobby- only with a crazy Missoni print.
Even just a sofa in a bold color makes a huge statement!
White. The boldest color of them all. *especially if you have 1 dog, 1 cat and 3 little boys
Ah. The Chesterfield, getting some major air time these days for obvious reasons. Quirky, humorous and the perfect mix and masculine and feminine.

Braving Michael's to Make a Wreath
photo via It's Mary Ruffle
About 5 years ago I made two wreaths, one for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas. They are a little sad and have seen better days so I've been keeping my eyes open for some inspiration to get going on a new one. I think I've found it! I may brave Michael's soon and use a coupon I've been hanging on to. I have to go into that stupid store with a specific shopping list otherwise I get so overwhelmed that I just stare at all of the Martha Stewart crafting stuff, eyes glazed over, and walk out with nothing but a candle or something. It's sad really. On another note, we had some serious painting happening this weekend in the baby's nursery and I should have some progress photos up for you by tomorrow. My dad painted the crib a bright shade of green that I'm crazy for and my brother is slooooowly getting the room painted a crisp shade of white. Don't tell him I said that. He doesn't read my silly blog so it's just between us;) Until then.

It's Raining, It's Pouring
images via we heart it & design sponge
It's been raining all week in Las Vegas which is nothing short of a miracle. It's cool and green and smells like the wet desert. It makes for a yummy Friday afternoon is all I'm saying. What must it be like to live somewhere like Washington, Oregon, Ireland or Scotland? I'm sure I romanticize the rain but what do you readers think who live in it all of the time? I'm sincerely curious. Is it love or hate? Wishing you all a rainy, comfy, cozy weekend!

Creative Jewelry Display
images via Dress, Design & Decor, Heather Ulrich, The City Sage and Apartment Therapy
I swear I'm going to the bottle if I have to untangle my jewelry one more time! Do you guys have this problem or are you all organized and perfect and labeled and color coordinated? I'm a mess with my one little jewelry box and every time I go to buy a new one I am horribly shocked at the price tags. You can include jewelry boxes on the same list as razors, a full set of highlights and organic milk. I am not crafty by any stretch of the means but I think even I can manage one of the options below. I'm going for the old picture frame option and might get all jiggy with a wallpaper background. Add it to my to-do list.Wednesday, October 13, 2010
Be Bold!
Are you as tired as I am of boring interiors? I am guilty with a capital "G" of this in my own home. I am trying my best to set out on a new design path and that is one of fearlessness. Now, I'm not saying I want Jonathan Adler's home but I do think I could stand a dose of adventure in a few rooms that I don't spend all day in. The powder room, the laundry room and the office are great places to get out the big box of crayons. You know, the one with the sharpener. At large, I am working on my baby's nursery and I am making every effort to think outside the box. I'll post photos when we're done!

I suppose this post is a sneak peak into a great new inspiration for design and specifically my blog. Some days it's hard to come up with something to share with you and when you find a website that has beautiful images it really helps! My new find is weheartit. If you are a blogger you will love this site. Today, I typed in the word, "Norway" and wahlah gorgeous, inspirational imagery to fuel the imagination. Go try it, you will waste the morning.

Jerry Misko's Art
Jerry Misko is a local Las Vegas artist who does awesome work. I have always loved our iconic signage (really meaning to take a tour of The Neon Museum) and love that you can bring a piece of our local history into your home by buying a piece of Misko's work. He is one of our most celebrated artists and I wanted to share his work with you. Enjoy!

Baby Strodl's Nursery Inspiration
Mobile, Light, Stuffed Animal, Wallcovering, Cribs, Art, Rocker, Drapery
I've been meaning to do a preliminary inspiration board for the baby's room for awhile now. It's amazing how fast this pregnancy has gone. Poor child, he's already suffering for being third in line. Anyhow, with the help of my awesome painter dad, we are going to paint my existing black crib kelly green and put it against a white and gray backdrop. I can't believe I actually found a photo of a crib painted in the exact shade of green I've been dreaming about. Just when you think you're original right?! Anyhow, my plan is to let that crib shine and punch up the white walls with some bright artwork. This piece by John Dilnot has me melting right now as does the Mr. Mustache mobile. We always gift the boys with their own blabla doll and this little black and white pup seems just right. I know the Eames rocker and Cole & Son wallcovering are cliche but I love them so shut about it. Let me know what you think. It's for me so any suggestions would be great!

Furniture Love Story
It's a love story marked by furniture. The Mies Van Der Rohe Barcelona Chair is the first piece of furniture that I fell in love with in design school. In my first furniture history class I discovered there is a lot to learn about world history based on what kind of chairs the behinds of the influential sat in! The Barcelona Chair has a rich story and if you consider yourself a history buff, feel free to read on here. For me this chair represents the point in time where I fell in love with design and not coincidentally my architect, aka, my husband.

This classic side table designed by Architect, Eileen Gray in 1927 for her famous house in Cap Martin now sits in my living room. I have always loved this piece and about 4 years ago my husband surprised me with it for my birthday. It's sleek, clean and totally tough as nails! It was also designed by a female architect in a time when the only thing a woman was designing was a plan to escape!

Ah, the Eames Lounge Chair. It's like the holy grail for us. Designed by the husband and wife team, Charles and Ray Eames, this lounge chair is the epitome of modern design. In 1956 this lounge chair came on the scene and it's not going anywhere people. In my opinion, the sexiest rooms in the world hold this chair and is object of our affections! Someday, after the kids are grown and half-way trustworthy, we'll splurge and add this little piece of history to our own home.

Pattern Play
I totally admit my fear of mixing patterns. It's so hard to determine when something looks eclectic, fresh and bohemian versus koo koo. I guess it's all about fearlessness and a good return policy, right? Anyhow, I was inspired by this photograph above taken by the talented Marcus Ohlsson and decided to round up a few interiors showing off their own pattern play.
