A Modern Southwest Nursery?

Nursery Inspiration

The baby's nursery has taken a sharp left turn from my all white everywhere, except the crib, theme. I found this kilim rug and thought it was super fun (plus it was only $80 from esalerugs). I seem to remember making a promise to you all to be more adventurous with my own decorating so I am taking a leap of faith and just going with it. I am getting the knock off Sputnik light from ZGallerie this weekend and am contemplating the piece of artwork above as well. It's hard to tell but it has the same stylized Southwest motifs as the rug. I never thought I'd see the day where I would like a Southwest motif but you can't deny the current trend in both fashion and home accessories. Please reference any magazine or Project Runway's winner, Gretchen. We're going the opposite of the regency glamor and into a more earthy phase. So let's just go with it, heh? The crib color turned out cute though, right? Thanks Dad!

  3. That crib is my absolute favorite color. And while normally the words "Southwest motif" would make me run, the color and style in the pieces you've chosen are far from the adobe brown and turquoise that the phrase brings to mind. Good job sugar...can't wait till I go back to work and can hire you to come down, hang out and help me get stylin'!

  5. This style was in when I was young. Except that the colors were muted peaches, beige, turquoise. I thought it was old and outdated until I went to a friend's parents house which had been decorated in the style since back in the 80s or 90s. I was surprised at how warm and comforting it looked, even today. I am SO for it. I even considered buying an aztec blanket at the antique shop the other day.
